Desma Spyridopoulos is co-founder of GLiNTECH, a professional IT services consultancy based in Sydney. The team at GLiNTECH provide high-quality, innovative application development using the most current technologies and approaches, collated from thought leaders around the world or developed in-house. In 2006, BRW ranked GLiNTECH as 19th in the Fastest 100 and Desma Spyridopoulos was ranked 6th of 20 female founders listed.

Spyridopoulos is an advocate for mothers in the workplace and has established a positive balance of working from home and in the office. She advises across business operations, marketing, accounting and HR. “Working in an IT company does not necessarily mean that you have to have a background as a developer. My background is in research/business analysis, which I developed while working on many IT projects in large corporations. I have also run a couple of businesses prior to GLiNTECH.”

GLiNTECH employs 60 people globally, with offices located in Sydney, Singapore and Melbourne. All the operations are centralised to a small team in the Sydney office. “I am very lucky to have a competent and efficient operations team. I like to think of operations as the engine for the company.” Though the mechanics of business is what Spyridopoulos works on, she recognises that the company is essentially all about the consultants; developers, project managers, principals and analysts. “At GLiNTECH”, she continues, “We have a great team of technically savvy consultants. We hire high achievers because we are working with up to the minute technologies and the pace is fast. Motivating intelligent, creative and high energy people is my greatest challenge.”

GLiNTECH differentiates itself from traditional service providers by not only offering price effective point placement, but also providing a reliable level of responsibility, client continuity and deep knowledge of the practice areas they undertake. “We wanted to build a specialised consultancy that focuses on building solutions around business outcomes,” claims Spyridopoulos. “We stake our reputation every time we undertake fixed price engagements. We have an excellent track record for delivering successful IT projects.” At GLiNTECH, new business is therefore largely sourced from within their clients or through referrals.

Plans for the Future

“We are restructuring to set GLiNTECH up for growing our specialised practices as well as the software side of our business. We have a Singapore office where we plan to grow our software solutions and services into the Asia Pacific.”
